I’am seeking, I’am striving
I’am all in it with all my heart.

I’ve never been interested in art, nor was I a fan of any artist who created famous paintings that were displayed in museums for others to admire as masterpieces. Sometimes I consider the paintings are meaningless, and I wonder why these painters spent so much time creating art only to have it judged or criticized by how they painted or drew it. But as I grew older, I realized that these paintings had a deeper meaning and that it was all about the artists’ feelings and emotions that were left unsaid but were expressed through art.
Vincent Van Gogh, a Dutch painter, captured my attention with his painting “The Starry Night.” It is widely considered as his most significant artistic achievement, and it is one of the most famous painter of all time. His painting had a big impact on me because it represents hope in the face of adversity. He painted it while being locked up at an asylum in Saint-Paul-de-Mausole, near St-Rémy-de-Provence. He experienced relapses into paranoid delusions, and he was officially diagnosed with epileptic seizures, but his mental health appeared to be improving. Unfortunately, he began to have hallucinations and suicidal thoughts as he sank deeper into depression. Suicide was considered sinful and immoral at the time, and mental health was stigmatized. Following the completion of his painting in the field near Auvers. To end his sorrows and grief, he shot himself with a revolver.
The unfortunate reality about artists and painters is that they are only recognized after they have died. After the artist’s death, their works become significantly more valuable because they were no longer producing new work. What Vincent Van Gogh is attempting to convey through his artwork is how he overcame suicidal thoughts and depression by continuing to paint despite his inner battles, believing that in his darkness, he will find the light.
